You don’t need to be a traditional bride to appreciate the concept behind something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Even if you are a modern bride with a flare for fashion there are a few fun and stylish ways to incorporate this tradition into your wedding attire and make grandma happy.
Your grandmother may have an antique brooch that would look perfect with your dress. You’re something old and borrowed. It would also be a great way to honour her on your wedding day.
Your something new could be your wedding shoes or a beautiful piece of blue jewellery, which could also serve as your something blue.
Borrow your mother’s veil or a piece of her wedding jewellery. She may have had a hair accessory that would look beautiful with your dress.
There are many ways for you to wear blue on your wedding day. It could even be under your dress such as an Anklet or lingerie.
Find a collection of items that you will enjoy wearing and have fun with your fashion creation.
On a more personal note... I would like to share my idea, which would include all four and pass down a tradition that I have created in honour of my grandmother who adored rings. Her hobby was taking an old ring and creating something new. As a little girl I would often go into her jewellery box just to look at her rings.
Take an old ring or some gold to a goldsmith that you trust and have him design a new ring with blue sapphires in the setting. The gold would be the something old. The new design the something new. By giving the ring to your mother to give to you before the wedding, the something borrowed and the sapphires the something blue.
Till Next Time
