Vintage Bridal Bouquets

This summer I am fortunate to be coordinating a vintage style wedding in the Byward Market at Restaurant Eighteen. This venue is absolutely beautiful. It’s been a pleasure to work with this bride. She has a clear vision of her wedding theme and style and knows exactly what she wants. I was so inspired by her that I had to explore the possibilities.

There are so many different kinds of flowers available for brides to choose from, many shapes and sizes. But what if the bride is allergic or just doesn’t appreciate real flowers… why not try something completely different and incorporate your favourite things…. Jewellery, feathers, ribbon or beads.

Artificial flower arrangements are a great solution for brides that are allergic to real flowers or would like to keep their bridal bouquet as a souvenir. You don’t necessarily need to have a vintage wedding to include aspects of that era to your bridal bouquet. It can be quite simple yet very beautiful and specially made just for you.

You may want to carry a decorative fan with personalized appliqués or your initials embroidered on the pattern. Great idea, if you would like to keep yourself and your girls cool in the summer heat.

These are just a few of my favourites. I can’t wait to see what the designer creates for my bride. Stay tuned for the highlights later this summer.

Michelle & Frank’s Engagement Pictures

Michelle & Frank’s big day is fast approaching. It feels like I have known them forever. We have spent many fun filled months together laughing, while planning every detail of their wedding. We were very fortunate to meet Melanie Doire of doirephotography.com this past January at Stanley’s Farm for their annual open house. It was like… at first sight for Frank who was taken with Melanie’s Fun sense of humour and of course I can’t forget the photo booth with props. Michelle & Frank both had a blast choosing hats and posing for the camera. It was no surprised that they decided to hire Melanie. Frank knew from the moment he met her that she was the photographer for them. It is always a pleasure to see Melanie and I look forward to the beautiful pictures from Michelle & Franks wedding this August. Both have children from previous relationships and wanted to have a ceremony that included the joining of to families. Here is a sneak peek at two of my favourite pictures from their engagement session with Melanie.

Seasonal Signature Cocktail Ideas

When it comes to weddings lets face it… they are expensive! That does not mean that you can’t find ways to save money along the way. If you and your fiancé decide to work with a venue but can’t afford to have an open bar there are options to consider. Check with the special events coordinator, if the venue has one, to see if they are able to provide a signature drink. By offering your guests a signature cocktail you can save money on you’re bar tap. The venue will only be using the alcohol and mixes needed for the cocktail. Ask them if they will charge you by the bottle of alcohol being used or by a flat rate. You can also incorporate your wedding colour and choose to create your own cocktail or have the venue bartender help you. First choose your spirit and then experiment with different mixes to see what tastes the best together. If you have a favourite fruit juice you could always start there and try adding different spirits. Maybe you have a favourite cocktail that you would like to serve. Keep in mind the season and garnishes available for that time of year. Try to incorporate theme if you have one. If it’s an elegant formal wedding for example you wouldn’t want to serve pina coladas. That would complement a tropical theme. A white wine spritzer in a tall champagne glass would add class to this style.

Since we are in July lets focus on refreshing cocktails that would compliment a summer wedding theme. Keep in mind that colours can be found in spirits, which could add to the style and feel of your wedding.

A fruity cocktail such as the mojito with fresh fruit juice would be very appropriate.

Martinis are very popular and could be served in your wedding colours. The blushing bride would be a good example of a signature cocktail.

The cranberry kiss cocktail is also a good choice.

Maybe your first vacation together was Mexico. You could serve Sangria to represent your special time there. It’s a wonderful fruity cocktail and could be served in a tall glass with a beautiful orange and cherry garnish.

A recipe of homemade lemonade could be made for your signature cocktail.

Berries are very popular in the summer why not try to serve up the best of summer in your signature cocktail by using natures best antioxidant.

Traditional Wedding Cake..... Or Not...

I just love Wedding cake. It’s a creative masterpiece of fondant or butter cream perfection. There are many flavours to choose from with different sizes and shapes. Your cake can be designed to match your colour and theme. The possibilities are endless!

Some brides and grooms are choosing to incorporate desserts that they love instead of traditional wedding cake. Having an assortment of desserts available for your guests on a decorated dessert table can be a fun experience for everyone.

Maybe you and your fiancé are both candy lovers. Why not have your favourite candies displayed buffet style for your guests? You can even find candy to match your colours.

Cupcakes are a fun alternative to the traditional wedding cake and are becoming very popular with brides and grooms. You can always add a small cake on the top of the cupcake tier and save it for your first anniversary.

I just love this next creative idea… the cake ball! These little guys will definitely get your guests smiling. They can also be decorated to match your theme.

Are you an ice cream fan…. cookies and cream… why not have this combo at your wedding. Who doesn’t love an Ice cream Sundays?

Treat your guests to milk and cookies. Have all your favourites for them to taste.

I saved the best till last. The cake shooter! I just think this idea is so fun and would make a beautiful arrangement on any table.

Enjoy the possibilites!
